Tim Walz was very good in his first speech. He came across like an inspirational HS football coach or friendly neighborhood grill dad. This resonates with the cultural prerogatives of Americans who are generally an upbeat and optimistic people which is why they tend to be quite pleasant to spend time with. Josh Shapiro was also a very good speaker and it’s good for the Democrats that he was present to attest to party unity. Walz is clearly contrasting himself to the relatively dour and unhappy debut of JD Vance who has seemed to fixate on picking fights and denouncing what he sees as the negatives in contemporary American society. He is entitled to his views and is undeniably an intelligent person in his own right but this approach is not going to win over Americans. As I’ve said before being the MAGA candidate requires a sense of irony and levity. His dead-serious comportment and negative comments do not fit the cultural style of the electorate. At present I assess that the Democrats have the momentum.

Yeah, walz is a really good pick imo, from my personal ideological view, I wish he had a better stance on Gaza. But he's also made statements in the last several months before this was even a thought that seemed to imply a lot of open-mindedness and nuance. I think the big win here is labor, I know uaw had come out and said him or breshear for the pick, the party finally is going to have to work with labor and progressives

I’m feeling inspired that he can even out Kamala’s missteps to bring a sense of calm in a time that we desperately need it

I'm not an American, but the US election news is so interesting. I wonder who will win the election.
