What is everyone’s policy on this? 

There’s seems to be no consensus on hand shake vs fist bump vs secret third thing and every interaction is made more awkward by it.

That’s where the awkwardness comes from imo

Handshake is for formality.
Fiat bump (spuds) is for your acquaintances, or those of your friends.
Secret 3rd thing is for your closest 2-5 friends, potentially an inside joke.

Shake or dap and hug with men. Do whatever feels right and don’t overthink it. With women though I don’t initiate handshakes.

hybrid:

handshake for boomer ages. 

fist bump for everyone not a boomer.
