Tonight on my walk there was a huge group of mounted police 

I stopped to chat with one guy and got all the details on being an Austin Mountie 

They drive in the horses from a little outside town 

They are required to poop scoop if the poop is in the way of people, although usually they try to kick it in the grass as fertilizer 

They are on permanent mounted duty and as such are responsible for all of the care of their horse save for veterinary. Everything — so yes this cop did his horse’s hair. He told me he works hard at it and was embarrassed I didn’t see them on a better day “I usually do a fishtail braid”

I was allowed to pet the horse 

Her name is Moonshine, nicknamed Moonie
