No, never chased it down. Some kind of tx history address poisoning seems like the default assumption, but not sure how it would work.

Can you get some of the token in Polygon and move it around yourself?

Maybe some weird oracle that can be used from Polygon to do logic with ETH balances? If so maybe some oracle hijinks are in order? Do you see any contracts on-chain that reference the mirror contract? I feel like Glider can look that up pretty quickly.
