Try being a PM without having solid metrics on downloads, metrics, or feature usage. No way to contact or partner with your largest users. Benevolent dictator OSS goes a long way, but at some point you need some feedback

Good post by Russ Cox here, https://research.swtch.com/telemetry-intro From my own experience working on OSS at Google, telemetry is super beneficial to the end-user. Without it, devs are blind as to where to put in their effort. Can it be abused? Probably
