Do you think open-source projects should have telemetry built in?

Try being a PM without having solid metrics on downloads, metrics, or feature usage. No way to contact or partner with your largest users. Benevolent dictator OSS goes a long way, but at some point you need some feedback

From my own experience working on OSS at Google, telemetry is super beneficial to the end-user. Without it, devs are blind as to where to put in their effort. Can it be abused? Probably

yes, especially in domains where stated preferences dont match revealed preferences (e.g. consumer products)
