In retrospect, decentralized social network has been terrible framing for Farcaster. Two recent frames that are better: 1. Farcaster is an economy — social network + crypto wallets, small but high GDP per capita, h/t @woj.eth @luc 2. Programmable social — X APIs are dead, Farcaster APIs are constantly getting better, h/t @six It's still (mostly) decentralized under the hood, but lean into the things that it's really good at relative to the competition.

If nothing else, watching Josh Shapiro, Kamala Harris, and Tim Walz at the Philadelphia rally makes me really want boomers out of political life. They're very old and very depressed and it's really nice seeing energetic hopeful people leading.

Hi Casters. A lot of people I know have been the subject of account takeover hacks in the last month. Unfortunately, some of them were successful. So I wrote a post today about things you can do to keep your assets safe. https://avc.xyz/avoiding-account-takeovers

Nothing gonna driver the exodus away from node.js like the NIGHTMARE that is legacy CJS builds alongside ESM.

I’m still using my original ErgoDox EZ from the kickstarter campaign several years ago. Love it. My first ergonomic was a Maltron, also excellent. Now i just need a vertical trackball that actually works consistently with mac.

I am noticing that the most successful new ideologies of the past decade are very object-level (prescriptions on specific issues) and quite little meta-level (social processes for making decisions on object-level issues). Examples: * Abstract libertarianism feels much weaker than 10 years ago. But issue-specific versions of it are quite successful: YIMBY (housing), the crypto space * e/acc (it's about all technology in theory, but ends up being about AI in practice) * The largest cluster in effective altruism morphed from being meta-level ("think harder to making sure your donations are going where they can do the most good!") to object level (AI safety, with a little bit of animal welfare and global public health) * Longevity movement Maybe network states and Glen and Audrey's Plurality movement are two exceptions - but in general the above feels like a strong pattern. Any ideas why this meta level -> object level shift seems to be taking place?

I don’t think the Democrats are united on being anti-crypto. It may be that the anti-crypto Dems have had the most power recently, but it’s changing and I’m hopeful they’re moving towards pro-crypto.
