Are standups archaic for small (remote) teams? Increasingly feel like a one weekly call is good and allow async for the rest of the week + tooling to keep everyone in the loop

Any input on how to make work more pleasant for everyone is appreciated

We tried a once weekly meeting with async the rest of the time, but we felt like we were losing touch with each other as we had a few small groups working different projects. Added back some meetings with different focus than just a stand up status for more connection. It was better. Still working on it. 🤔
