OpenNext exists because no one at CloudFlare or SST seem to understand (or want to acknowledge), that Next.js deployed outside of Vercel is a dynamic Node.js app and not a static site with interactive bits.

Naturally, you can't just upload it to an S3 bucket and call it a day.

Maybe they should just switch to Astro?

I also prefer Vue and very much like Astro, but there’s few orgs that commit to these things.

I guess React has caught early on, and there’s way more resources available for all levels of proficiency

I really don’t understand why Next.js and React are so popular… i find so much more enjoyable and organized to use Vue, especially in combination with Astro

I've been working with Astro for a while. Really feels like the ultimate swiss-army knife. Deployments are edge by defaults to cloudflare pages.

what about deploying to railway.app ? same issues? I had so many issues with Astro. sparse docs, no community. have things changed?

Haven’t tried Next.js on Railway, though it would not be much different to deploying it on a VPS like Digital Ocean, etc.

As for Astro, there are tons of docs and the community is way bigger than it used to be, so you might be in luck. However, I wouldn’t treat Astro like a full stack framework: it’s not.

You’d have to ask people from Cloudflare and SST, they’re the ones having issues with Next.js 🤷‍♂️

everyone uses next so everyone has to use next

my personal preference is astro+solidjs/plain JS or React if I need to use a 3rd party SDK that's React only
