mediocre pour, very tasty decaf though 

I usually drink 1-2 decafs a day. it’s a nice fake caffeine boost that you can use to trick yourself, even though it’s usually < 5% of the caffeine in a regular coffee.

I’ve tried a lot of decaf beans and they are often over-roasted to distract you from how flat they taste. and most cafes serve decaf that is very “meh” because it isn’t a popular order and the beans aren’t replaced as frequently.

these beans from Colombia roasted by De Mello in Toronto are a rare exception to shitty decaf. nice middle-of-the-road roast, well-rounded and sweet without getting too fruity. A+

now that I finally found some goooood decaf beans I’ve become a decaf maxi. usually 1 caf and 1-2 decaf daily.

agreed, they behave quite differently. grind setting is different, flow is different, and they look different in storage vs. same weight in other caffeinated beans.

I’ve tried swiss water decaf from Parallel and to be honest it’s kinda gnarly. over-roasted and a bit smokey, muddy overall. but that might be more to do with the roast, not the process.

this decaf from De Mello is my fav by a long shot. it’s definitely more towards medium than light roast, but really tasty with a certain sweetness that I don’t usually find in decaf.

When I was working the machine I mostly had swiss water decafs and the pours always looked and flowed different.

Less movement. More contrast. Smaller color range in crema.

Haven’t tried De Mello, but in the past I’ve found the non swiss water decafs better. Never found out if that was chance or cause.
