Depends on how you define failure Socrates flagrantly challenged the city of Athens — esp in his own trial — by refusing to use rhetoric and subjecting politicians to philosophic challenge His friend Xenophon argues that Soc purposefully incited death to prove to future cities that philosophers could be trusted
