In most cases, I agree with this. General topic channels don't work well in the new model. They were built an era of channels as hashtags. There will be some exceptions, but will require a lot of work from the channel owner and moderators to make sure a large channel becomes and stays a community.

Generic channels should be as open as possible and be similar to what default subreddits were like imo Would be kinda interesting if one day there were “mega channels” that had their own storage and were free for people to cast in too

The challenge is spam. Most people don't have the time / want to do the work required to make them great.

Stated vs. revealed 1. Owners want to control of the feed but don't want to do the work 2. Users get frustrated when they don't appear in the feed controlled by the algo
