Two separate issues here, gents: 1) DAU being inflated (accounts with zero casts don't impact this!) 2) Followers counts being inflated My original cast focuses on 1), whereas @ghostlinkz.eth's reply focuses on 2) FC DAU is overstated by at least 5X; the same doesn't hold true for Twitter, FB, IG, etc.

re your 1) point, if you assume that most users are lurkers, then protocol DAUs != warpcast DAUs because lurkers don't post. So I don't disagree that the farmers/bots (and the financial incentives to bring them here) are an issue, but the warpcast DAU number could actually be close to that. We really have no idea. you guys are free to say what you want of course, but the point I'm much more interested in is how we should shape the culture of real people on here, and how we should try to expand that.

What efforts are you seeing from Merkle to show off how many real people are on here? The power badge was supposed to be that but I never felt they were serious about it from the beginning

1. merkle doesn't owe us a daily chart of their DAUs? 2. the issue is in the definition of "real"—farmers might be real (as @gigamesh discovered), they're just not relevant to us because they're only trying to make money. 3. pretty much everything merkle ships is an effort to get more real ppl to use farcaster.

1. If they do it, it builds trust, but you're right, its all up to them. The only thing we can do is produce our own charts and make our own observations which is what we are doing. It's also one of the benefits of an open graph 2. s/o to @gigamesh for not being scared to speak his mind (something that many ppl are too afraid to do on here because of the culture that has been cultivated by the leaders). He was also right, most of those accounts are involved in platform manipulation 3. Merkle also said that /degen was a great channel when ppl like me called out the bs. I was loud when I noticed that degen was creating a stupid amount of spam. I was ignored because metrics were going up and bad actors were getting their bag filled

yeah I agree with 1/2. re 3, wasn't that mostly dec/jan/feb? even I was having fun with it at that time, I don't think it was clear what would play out. easy to say now, but I don't think it was clear back then.

I could see the problem coming since the $points and $spam experiments began. Don’t get me wrong, there are valuable lessons in all these experiments, but we shouldn’t shade people who call these things out early and end up being right about it. Lets not forget, each experiment changes the culture, and some changes you can’t go back on

plenty of ppl talked about the risks of financializing everything very early in the year, myself included. this just sounds like an ego thing tbh.

But did you go as far as to never cast in the degen channel? Cuz I did, and then you all got the airdrop and made good $ while ppl like me felt dumb and betrayed by ppl I respected and looked up to. I can go into more detail, but I’ll save that for another day. If this is about ego, I would have ghosted this place a long time ago
