I should put this on a tshirt and sell it via a frame. The protocol has 641k users who have at least 1 storage unit, yet there are 211k users who have never casted before. How many people talk about that?

I think the spam from farmers/bots affects us all negatively because it dilutes the conversation and makes it harder to tell who is real / relevant.

But that has nothing to do with the lurker/poster ratio, which is why I called it out.

Isn’t it common knowledge at this point that 90% of people are lurkers on social?

I dunno, the “inflated DAU” conversation never made much sense to me.  How does it affect anyone negatively?

re your 1) point, if you assume that most users are lurkers, then protocol DAUs != warpcast DAUs because lurkers don't post.

So I don't disagree that the farmers/bots (and the financial incentives to bring them here) are an issue, but the warpcast DAU number could actually be close to that. We really have no idea.

you guys are free to say what you want of course, but the point I'm much more interested in is how we should shape the culture of real people on here, and how we should try to expand that.

Two separate issues here, gents:

1) DAU being inflated (accounts with zero casts don't impact this!)

2) Followers counts being inflated

My original cast focuses on 1), whereas @ghostlinkz.eth's reply focuses on 2)

FC DAU is overstated by at least 5X; the same doesn't hold true for Twitter, FB, IG, etc.

you’re sounding the alarms that 1/3 of ppl here don’t cast. i showed a point that 4/5 of ppl on twitter don’t tweet. most users on any social media are lurkers, that is not unique to FC.

Where is the proof that these 80% of users are actually reading Twitter? Even if this stat is accurate, it doesn’t necessarily justify anything. It’s important for ppl to know that looking at Farcaster protocol metrics doesn’t provide a clear picture of reality. Everyone is entitled to form their own opinions, and I will continue to share mine

Yeah, the numbers are likely higher than that. In social networks, most people only spend time on "read only" mode and do not interact much

I suspect that's true across many platforms.  Most users are consumers, with most content produced by a much smaller part of the user base.

As someone who spent almost 10 years on twitter without making a tweet and was always online. I agree with you tbh. Most people are lurkers on socials in general and it’s not just something on this app

I also feel like there has been a massive increase in bots on this app. It sure does affect our activity stats, i guess

Tbh I stopped engaging just because so much negativity in those kind of casts

There are so many bots on twitter it's hard to say how many CT users are real too. Safe to say we're still super early
