Real talk time founders. I appreciate the call out @chinmay.eth, AND itās always been my assumption when building that my code will be stolen. Nothing we put online is defensible, therefore our advantage has to lie outside of āthe codeā. How do you feel about this, reader?

At scale, ofc ppl can and will copy your stuff (esp if you're building a "protocol"). But seeing it in a small community like FC pisses me off. Seems like a misunderstanding in this case, but anyone considering copying for real should expect the other person to use their reputation and network to salt their fields.

I think the partners section was pretty egregious, but as a web dev donāt you inspect to see how someone accomplished a cool effect? And as a community doesnāt it benefit us to have high-quality stuff proliferate? I guess itās been ingrained into me that people will steal my code so I donāt really feel as strongly as others on this. I see lots of vitriol and I am having trouble internalizing it.

I think it's a gray area tbh. Supposedly they just had it as a placeholder and the site wasn't intended for release. I don't really it buy it tbh but also it's not my beef and chinmay seems to not see bad faith in it.

How do you use brands placeholders for someone elseās project? Thatās wrong by its very nature. If this wasnāt meant to be released, and something āquestionableā was already built on the site, the moment it got discovered, it should have been shut down immediately, with a mea culpa issued right away. Instead, he had to be called out. Honestly, this is just bad. Heās undoubtedly an amazing builder here, but everyone needs to own up to their mistakes, and this was a big one. Chinmay was a real gentleman.

agree chinmay was a gentleman, esp when this guy is releasing a very competitive product to his. again it's not my beef and they made up, so I would defer back to that and assume I don't know the full story. I have shit to do. but I agree it's not a good look.

Oh, me too. Iām just an outsider with no real knowledge beyond whatās been publicly discussed on the casts. If thereās more to the story, I donāt know it either, and I agree it's not my beef. That said, since Farcaster still feels like a small village where everyone knows each other, Iām just throwing in my two cents, gossip-style. [ā¦] Okay, I feel a little ashamed now :P
