Real talk time founders. I appreciate the call out @chinmay.eth, AND itā€™s always been my assumption when building that my code will be stolen. Nothing we put online is defensible, therefore our advantage has to lie outside of ā€œthe codeā€. How do you feel about this, reader?

At scale, ofc ppl can and will copy your stuff (esp if you're building a "protocol"). But seeing it in a small community like FC pisses me off. Seems like a misunderstanding in this case, but anyone considering copying for real should expect the other person to use their reputation and network to salt their fields.

I think the partners section was pretty egregious, but as a web dev donā€™t you inspect to see how someone accomplished a cool effect? And as a community doesnā€™t it benefit us to have high-quality stuff proliferate? I guess itā€™s been ingrained into me that people will steal my code so I donā€™t really feel as strongly as others on this. I see lots of vitriol and I am having trouble internalizing it.

I think it's a gray area tbh. Supposedly they just had it as a placeholder and the site wasn't intended for release. I don't really it buy it tbh but also it's not my beef and chinmay seems to not see bad faith in it.

How do you use brands placeholders for someone elseā€™s project? Thatā€™s wrong by its very nature. If this wasnā€™t meant to be released, and something ā€œquestionableā€ was already built on the site, the moment it got discovered, it should have been shut down immediately, with a mea culpa issued right away. Instead, he had to be called out. Honestly, this is just bad. Heā€™s undoubtedly an amazing builder here, but everyone needs to own up to their mistakes, and this was a big one. Chinmay was a real gentleman.

agree chinmay was a gentleman, esp when this guy is releasing a very competitive product to his. again it's not my beef and they made up, so I would defer back to that and assume I don't know the full story. I have shit to do. but I agree it's not a good look.

Oh, me too. Iā€™m just an outsider with no real knowledge beyond whatā€™s been publicly discussed on the casts. If thereā€™s more to the story, I donā€™t know it either, and I agree it's not my beef. That said, since Farcaster still feels like a small village where everyone knows each other, Iā€™m just throwing in my two cents, gossip-style. [ā€¦] Okay, I feel a little ashamed now :P
