As a parent, how highly do you value fostering independence in your children? Personally, I value it very highly, a bit higher than my wife, and I'm curious if that's a typical mom/dad dynamic or not.

Development just is the process of increasing independence, e.g. becoming able to function more by your own powers and being less dependent on your caretakers for your functioning

People often quibble with this because not everyone likes the connotations of independence (you can substitute agency if you like), and some (wrongly IMO) think of it as in tension with interdependence and cooperation But it’s literally true
