Wondering about the recent history of Scholastic, as a history of slop: * 95% of their books now are total slop * partnership with Epic means Scholastic coextends into screen time slop * in the 90s their books were at most semi-slop; something has shifted recently I turned the saturation down on this photo btw

JKR signed the first HP book to Scholastic, which was a brilliant move for both of them. Not so obvious it would be a fit now

Probably was shifting for a long time, yet their long time owner/ceo passed away during Covid and that may have exacerbated the shift.

Scholastic was how I got my manga in elementary school. They carried a few series that were actually of meaningful quality.

yeah scholastic is garbage, IG kidlit community and "mommy blogs" from any google search is the same. it's very hard to find good signal through the noise. been rolling around the idea of creating a /parenting book club for advanced or highly motivated young readers.
