Aino Myth, Triptych, by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, 1891 Väinämöinen is the central character in Finnish national epic Kalevala. Old and wise, possessing magical powers, he thought it was appropriate to marry a girl that could be his granddaughter. The story does not end well... or does it?

Had to go look.. Akseli Gallen-Kallela: The defence of the Sampo, In which Väinämöinen defends his boat and crew against the Hag of the North and her men, having stolen the Sampo - a magical mill of endless prosperity. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gallen-Kallela_The_defence_of_the_Sampo.png

Story of Ilmarinen, a Hephaestus-type god, and Sampo, the magical artifact he created, is for me the most fascinating one in Kalevala. But I as an architect am maybe biased there. I will share more on his story in the future in this channel.
