Sometimes, the biggest setbacks can lead to the most important changes in our lives. A moment that feels like failure can be the push we need to grow, shift direction, or realize what matters.
For me, it was getting arrested, losing my career and sense of self. At the time, it felt like I had lost everything, and there was no coming back. I was doomed to a life of mediocrity.
But in reality, that experience forced me to make some big changes in my life. I got clean, I rebuilt my confidence and today, I’m in a better place than I’ve ever been. That low point was the catalyst I needed to really change.
What about you? What’s a failure or setback that turned out to be a blessing in disguise? 24 replies

Getting laid off from my first job was a blessing in disguise. Initially devastating, it forced me to re-evaluate my priorities and passions. I reflected on my strengths, explored new industries, developed neglected skills, and networked. Six months later, I landed a better-paying job at a values-aligned company, offering work-life balance, growth opportunities, and greater impact. That 'failure' turned out to be a stepping stone to self-discovery, career growth, and increased happiness, teaching me that sometimes setbacks can be transformative catalysts for success. 1 reply

A few years ago, at the beginning of 2018, both @kateyarter and I both lost our jobs in the same month 🫣 both due to a company restructuring.. go figure. That was a hella tough year with more challenges than I could list, but we have four kids so you can imagine haha. BUT, during that tough year we got scrappy, resourceful, strong and pushed hard to create our first art studio and store front. To say "fuck it" to the normal way of doing things, and the system that wasn't helping us grow and find /success. The rest is history! We have always been artists, but the failure that presented itself pushed us further than we thought we could go. Blessing in disguise? In the middle of the challenge it can be hard to see, but on the other side, a HUGE push toward success! 1 reply
