People using Warpcast on their PCs can still see everyone’s PBs, so this isn’t truly an experiment. The PBs should be fully deleted, not just hidden.

They are literally saying they are experimenting. I wouldn't characterize that as messing with people. I can't see them on web, was able to see on mobile earlier today, but now they are gone. This is likely them testing responses and interactions which they are trying to optimize. ☮️

That's exactly what I said, they've only hidden it, but they haven't actually deleted it. Just because it's not visible (to some) doesn't mean the algorithm isn't still using the "hidden" PB for everything else.

There needs to be some criterion for algorithmic discovery and engagement, whether they call it a PB or not, its just a form of classification, this happens on every day on trad social. I think the primary take away should be that WC is doing what all of those communities did, which is engaging in an iterative process to get better and better at increasing the visibility of meaningful content for its users. They just did it publicly which is great for us. That being said I can understand your contention around the badge and the baggage that whole process brought with it.
