We're a democracy, and yet many of the founders' greatest constitutional innovations *restrain* popular will. (Can you name some?) That's why the criticism "that's antidemocratic!"--without more--isn't a very compelling argument. Happy Constitution Day y'all.

Your use of the word we here is confusing. Are you referring to the Warpcast community? Or the government of the United States. Are you a part of that government? Last time that I checked, the founders of the US were anti-democracy, and designed a constitutional republic as the system of government.

I take issue with the use of "we" to refer to "those of us in the USA," as it implies a collective unity that overlooks individual autonomy and varying views on governance. The founders were deliberate in establishing a constitutional republic to protect individual rights from the tyranny of the majority, which is the essence of democracy. Using "we" in this context risks conflating individual citizens with the government or with collective national actions, which undermines the importance of recognizing individual freedoms and responsibilities.
