I love POAPs, but why do I have to contact them to register an event? Feels very anti-crypto

100%, the other thing that bothers me is how insufficient it is for viral IRL assembly. would be excellent if organizers could each have a "kiosk" that allows minters to create derivative kiosks. we need a significantly more permissionless event badge mechanism.

kind of, more for the opportunity of having something very spontaneous, containing 10,000+ ppl to quickly spread a proof of attendance without relying on everyone meeting the same person, receiving a secret, etc. also, same thing for longterm IRL scavenger game. how do we cheaply but securely mint a plethora of proof

re your first point, what about just having a nft ticket for the event that just β€œbecomes” the poap when you check in? most if not all large events have some kind of checkin process at the door. smaller events organizers probs know who was there. would love to know more about your last point tho!

what about all the historic events that deliberately avoid a formal checkin? e.g. protests & strikes? same deal with a p2p scavenger games, is it really visibly fair if there isn't a way for anyone to just permissionlessly purchase the things to hide? unfortunately poap design is top-down w/ strict networking.

possibly an unlimited dutch auction (low-gas L2) 1155 mint + dynamic url QR code. ideally it could be indexed such that most attendees collect a huge # of very low-trust derivatives, & like gitcoin passport, score is distilled for sybil resistance. so earliest minters & high-trust derivatives might pay more for high...

clickthru for the qr codes they generate, which might be part of the indexed score as well. I just think that if POAP uses negligible price to defend against farming, then likewise it should be entertained as the central mechanism for establishing permissionless minting. (high-trust = low index on 1155 series)

for strictly web2 ppl, maybe lean on the dynamic qr code to funnel them into a patch wallet (@corbin.eth ). this is just my rough idea, but yeah, as a repeat organizer of POAP events and IRL attendee, there's room for improvement.
