ads a fun minigame for me. the moment they pop up, I start scrolling past actual content to mute the brand accounts that I know for certain will never publish anything insightful.

Way worse!
I've reached a point where I rarely use Twitter. It's bad for the discovery of new content and these bots are driving me up a wall. Also the ads! They won't stop. And no there is NO WAY I'll pay to use Twitter.
