Soon we'll have the first lonely evening, bereft of cicadas' friendship.

Ainβt it incredible how cicaders live underground for 13 or 17 years (depending on breed) Insane! Insects loving that long. Then singing to Sine for only a few weeks before shuffling off the mortal coil (probably also getting some other important business done in that time too)

Yeah! I think it's so profound. Millions and millions and millions of years of that behavior. A super slow life, with no purpose, other than to sound cool and make more cicadas lol I think they make one of the most beautiful types of sounds possible. And it gives me a unique type of happy and comfortable feeling. Like, it reminds me that I don't need an explanation for why we exist. We can just be here, having a drink on the porch, listening to cicadas and chillin π And cicadas have been chillin and keeping life simple just like that, for millions of years.

i also get this way about dragonflies. so ancient, so perfectly evolved, its like a time machine flashing you back to the dinosaur age every time you see them
