This Week on @base I did a lot of things, again, here goes; 1. Worked on my /hypersub Shamanistic Dude. We have a new member this week @torii-stories , sent everyone in the group numerology and astrology updates 2. I gifted 2 people @maretus.eth ’ hypersub /success because I feel like thats an amazing place to onboard people! 3. Sold 12 editions of my collaboration free mint fl0wer hill with @0ffline (I made the audio, she made the visuals) 4. Worked on something I’m about to mint on @rodeodotclub tomorrow 5. Collected more than 50 artworks on chain, including some beautiful art from @mxjxn.eth and @halomachine 6. Did a lot of replying and talking to people on Warpcast some beautiful conversations and connections 7. My take on FC’s unspoken etiquette after 20+ months here: - Debate ideas, not people. Never engage in ad hominem attacks. Don’t let your ego take things personally. Everyone must leave feeling smarter, not angrier. - Make a genuine effort to steelman opposing views before replying. Find your own blind spot, even if buried deep. Assume good and sincere intentions in others. - Take this as an experimental lab to get to the truth together, rather than to prove anyone wrong. Treat it as a PvE game, not Squid Games. What else?

One way to look at the possible effects of deepfakes in politics is to look at "shallow fakes" that have been possible for a long time. For example, this screenshot purporting to be a "you're free to say whatever nasty stuff you want" whitelist for twitter. I actually have no idea if this is real or fake, but there definitely are some people who are treating it as real, imo without sufficient evidence. And yet, the effects of things like this are pretty bounded. This feels like a plausible outcome for deepfakes in politics. The smart people know not to trust a politician's statements without confirmation on official channels, and less smart people get tricked, as they do today with shallow fakes. If something fake goes viral, Community Notes can help on the margin in making it clear that it's fake. Most normies don't actually look at this stuff in real time, and so the effect ends up not too bad. This is the strongest case for not being too worried.
