My take on FC’s unspoken etiquette after 20+ months here: - Debate ideas, not people. Never engage in ad hominem attacks. Don’t let your ego take things personally. Everyone must leave feeling smarter, not angrier. - Make a genuine effort to steelman opposing views before replying. Find your own blind spot, even if buried deep. Assume good and sincere intentions in others. - Take this as an experimental lab to get to the truth together, rather than to prove anyone wrong. Treat it as a PvE game, not Squid Games. What else?

- if you’re going to cold DM someone, include some actual info about what you want. Hard to parse “hey bro. Good morning!” - don’t assume gender ever. I’ve made this mistake way too many times. Pfps are deceptive. Use gender neutral terms until you know for sure.

I love this list. It unfortunately was not my experience when I first commented on a political post. I was pretty much attacked for my view which shocked me given I felt FC was the way you explained. It took me a while to go back in the channel after that.

Mr. @july told me the first time we talked: “be yourself” and I kept that advise as a word of honor. Even if it’s unpopular tell your truth every time with honesty and respect to others. Intellectual honesty should be the base for a constructive conversation.

great list i always assume i can learn something from the person on the other side of the convo, open mindedness win here (and everywhere) i’d add: if someone thoughtfully replies to you, or asks you a question, try to find time to reply back / answer can’t catch all obv, but ppl doing this regardless of following sets apart fc from other social
