if people very steeped in art say "sorry, that is not art" you should pay attention, because it is triggering enough that it made them defensive imo, art is about intent (did the creator make this to try and make someone feel something?) it is not about reception

My personal definition of “art” (an admittedly loose and inclusive definition, YMMV): Anything that requires some kind of agency, volition, or judgement, where the agent turns around and says, “this is art.” This definition includes Dada, conceptual art, found object art, memes, shitposts, and, yes, AI art.

Now, what’s *good* art? Ahh, that’s a completely different—and a more interesting—question.

Could you expand on this? I’d like to know your view. I mostly agree with your definition, but it’s so loose that almost everything can fit into it, which almost aligns with my concept. I believe nothing or everything is art, as it all comes from the same place and from the same experiences that shaped us

Sure! I'm a big fan of the Dadaists, who sought to create anti-art as protest against the cultural conventions that plunged Europe into the first industrialized, mechanized war, and all the horrors it wrought. But in doing so, they still made great art. That, to me, is the proof-of-concept of "art" being wide in scope.
