Interesting thread. I think this is the deflated version of “based.” https://twitter.com/foz89107323/status/1641845221532082176

I'm 22 so think my perspective useful here. For one, I get it. I see the symptoms often. I'm just, not convinced by the whole arg, ya know. It's a bit like the Varieties of Capitalism literature actually: Hall and Soskice look like they're onto something, but at root it doesn't tie together

Can't quite put finger on what it is and I'm in a rush rn. But I think my disagreement is the assumption that this is permanent, whereas I think it's just like any of cultural phase And as many ppl here have said and as I saw in the comments: aren't many generations like this?

One thing I find interesting is how GenZ is growing up with more exposure to each other and more analysis from the world. GenZs with high agency have far more contact with the low agency part of their cohort than prev generations?? And today's mediums, like social, are dominated by the media low agency..

There is for sure one reason this differs. That chart of declining activity suggests GenZ is different. Reminds me of the testosterone chart, which feels like a real issue But on the activity, I suggest that the activities have changed. It might be like measuring the decline in clerks and worrying about the jobs

In reality, I have loads of fun playing video games with my friends, many of my friends including me eschew drinking, but only in lieu of other activities. I can't really justify the decline in dating so well, but I have a date on Tuesday

Wait I have an original thought I thought, I have the same 'just be happy' attitude to life, but care passionately about things Young people do not know, truly, how to live a life of nuance. I think that explains most of this. Life is just hard to process, and it can take a long time to figure it out/accept it.
