for the past 5 wednesdays, @dwayne, @maryams.eth and i have been meeting for our book club where we're reading I Heard There Was a Secret Chord - a book about how our brains interpret and change when listening to (or thinking about) music
it's turned into a wonderful midweek break, and this week we got to experience the coolest discussion led by dwayne about rap as a genre, and what makes it so different from other genres out there
some highlights:
> rap is "rhythmic storytelling"
> the origins of rap's content and culture (societal critiques, diss tracks, rap battles, identity and pride, vulnerability, family)
> what makes a rapper's energy different from other artists?
> how does the limitation of sticking to a beat foster other forms of creativity?
passionate people are awesome, thank you again @dwayne ! 6 replies
