This may be the strongest case for authoritarianism: https://www.noahpinion.blog/p/how-liberal-democracy-might-lose Basically: the war for people's hearts and minds has no stable equilibrium except local hegemony of one dominant elite, much like (and for the same reasons as) what Hobbes pointed out for regular war.

I don't like the article right from the get up because Noah is wrong. He was raised In a liberal democracy that defeated authoritarianism yet 35% of his income is taken from a barrel of a gun to pay for socialist causes. Communism is dead? Poppycock. Imperialism is gone until US needs oil. CCP exists...

good thing socialism doesn't have to mean authoritarianism and can be part of a reasonable, hybrid capitalist/socialist liberal democracy.

Capitalism and socialism don't exist. They're spooks. hence "hybrid". All that is are markets, and how freely you're allowed to use them A true Democracy means that the crowd can determine tax rate on market In practice we have criminal democracies where political elites choose the tax rate. all based on violence

Direct democracy is untenable. Just look how bad it has gotten in California after years of doing everything via ballot initiative. People have plenty of ways to influence their elected representatives. We've organized many times in the USA historically to influence outcomes and live in a better country for it.

Democracy is bad, but show me how to create socialism without an authoritarian regime. You blame california's fall on more democracy. I blame it on social welfare and a collapse of who made america Murder has been legal since OJ, and if your last name is Jenner you can run over tons of people. The Criminal Elite Rule

Sure but SBF went to prison so you're just nitpicking random injustices and ignoring a lot of social progress my friend. Of course we have a long way to go making our country more fair and just. But to say it's impossible is really to shit all over a lot of work previous generations put into this country.

Yeah, so did my dad for smoking weed. You're ignoring social injustice, my friend. Build socialism without it being forced through a violent tax regime. I believe in peaceful parenting and out growing the state. Note that sbf was friends with gary gensler and much of the stolen money went to the Ukraine

I can assure you I do not ignore social justice! Is it possible we are talking past each other a bit here? :) For example, I didn't blame 'democracy' for anything. I support representative democracy, and believe that avg voters aren't equipped to judge the utility of majority of proposals the way representatives can.

The problem is that you are born into a state that owns your very being. They own your parents, and you're not allowed to leave except through death or taxes. Those representatives will send your child to die in Vietnam while their children are safe and sound in London, and your vote barely matters nor do theirs.

Most citizens feel no personal responsibility for what their country does. Americans were responsible for Vietnam, not just LBJ and JFK. It's difficult to organize/fight against the war machine but there is a constitutionally protected path for us to do so. The right to peaceably assemble, lobby, and vote for our reps.
