Austin was great when it was the only liberal and cultural oasis in TX, back when that meant something. When it was a Texas-sized college town. SXSW created a reality distortion field for tourists looking for the Good Life and since then they’ve been trying to graft a tech hub on top of a place that was never suited.

Have been listening to this take since I moved here in 2005 and it was bullshit then and it's bullshit now... No disrespect meant. I've moved around and come back. Austin is still a place with chill people. It's still a place teeming with artists/musicians. It's just now the whole world knows about us.

Hot, expensive, sprawling. More ramen restaurants tho, much culture, very progress. What’s Austin’s greatest cultural export in the last 10 years.

been here since 2013...it is too crowded to fully enjoy this place unless you live very near or in downtown (or in a cool neighborhood) imo getting in a car to go somewhere sucks, and most of the good restaurants/bars are LA-levels of crowded during peak times...

Yup. agree. Wasn’t meaning to dunk on Austin. It is what it is. Fastest growing cities in the U.S. so people like it. We should have more growing cities
