When starting a company or fund, people often ask “how much have you raised?” or “how many employees do you have?” as proxies to how successful it’s going. Helpful to train yourself to not get caught up in caring about these numbers as it tends to lead you in the wrong direction

Absolutely agree. The true measure of success is the value you create and the impact you make. Focusing too much on external metrics like funding and headcount can distract from the core mission. Prioritize innovation, customer satisfaction, and team morale—those are the real indicators of progress.
