When starting a company or fund, people often ask “how much have you raised?” or “how many employees do you have?” as proxies to how successful it’s going. Helpful to train yourself to not get caught up in caring about these numbers as it tends to lead you in the wrong direction

I used to ask "what is the impact of your company", but that was considered rude. So, I started asking the same old raise and company side questions.

All these questions are from the 'compare and despair' playbook, which I find only serves to bring founders down to a level that makes it hard to see the forest for the trees.

Can’t run out of runway if you don’t employ anyone 🧠 It sounds like a joke but it’s exactly how we are working on /bcard

I was in this similar situation once (maybe a few times). One memorable one was when someone told me "It's a great idea but it wouldn't work in the next 10 years." What could have been a great idea was similar to Venmo. Always trust yourself. Believe in yourself. Don't accept "No's".

Accurate, I wonder if this relates but, In my family's business starting out, we were so excited finally hiring some sales rep that we somehow stopped calculating much and started losing money.

Exactly 💯 you have to set a standard for yourself and make your policy know to co_worker, because not how long, but, how well.
