If you knew that the Studio Ghibli animator, Hayao Miyazaki, felt dismayed by OpenAI completely mimicking his art style and using it to grow their product without permission or compensation, would it bother you? Would you still use it? I haven't formed a strong opinion, just curious on everyone's thoughts.

I didn't participate yesterday, mostly out of laziness. Seeing Miyazaki's opinion on generative AI is a further deterrent, to using Ghibli style at least. Gotta be pretty heartbreaking to see the craft you've mastered over years/decades get turned into a gimmick, knowing the AI was trained on your work without your permission. That being said, I'm not really judging anyone for participating as long as they're not trying to profit off it

Yeah I think that's about where I'm at. It's tough because so much of art is learning from and imitating styles, but it's one thing to learn from and develop as a human. It *feels* to me like another thing for an AI to train on it and be able to output at a pace that no human could ever keep up with, and then for OpenAI to profit off that mimicry adds another layer of ethical concerns imo.
