What's insane about it? We are already 1.5C steady state, and gonna hit 2C soon

Why wouldn't you revise targets to 3C or 4C?

Simply for the sake of answering, as I’m not in full disagreement, it seems like a slippery slope to revise now. We are already unbelievably slow to react in context of the current estimates. Revising by ~2x implies less urgency and reduced significance. Climate change deniers will have a field day. If we revise now, do we revise again when we start approaching 3C and 4C?

Wondering if there’s a named paradox or dilemma for this sort of scenario where revising a goal runs counter to actually achieving said goal

Goodhart’s Law is close but there’s gotta be a better match

This is a good point -- it's a bad psychological strategy because it allows for complacency

But we ought to recognize that 2C is a lost target
