Anyone else starting to get worried about this rise of casual open imperialism? Like, not "peaceful trade at prices social justice activists don't like" imperialism but actual "let's go conquer stuff" imperialism. I know it's "meant to be a joke", but often such jokes are a first step to normalizing something dark...

How would the lives of Mexicans and Canadians become somehow worse if they became the 51st and 52nd states?

well Canadians would be victims to more gun violence so that's one way. almost certainly the end of their single-payer healthcare. significantly diluted representation in their government. those are the first three examples that come to mind. not to say it would be definitely net worse but the better question is how would it be better? and unless they are voluntarily joining the States what right does the US have to colonizing/imperializing sovereign nations?

1. Canadians currently have zero faith in their government and thr country is in the worst turmoil and economic state since the 1970's 2. Canadian healthcare sucks ass, somehow worse than in the us even despite being "free". Many people saw the system's flaws during covid 3. Guns are almost completely illegal in canada, which is tyranny. Most canadians would prefer gun laws to be changed. 4. Okay so lol Mexico?
