Why are there so many leftists within crypto? As Solana says in his bankless episode, crypto disintermediates and reduces the power of the state. I get why libertarians and rightists like crypto, but why leftists? Leftists should want state power to enact leftist policy goals if they care about leftist outcomes.

Do you believe all “leftists” are for more state control?

I believe that all leftists who want leftist outcomes should want more state intervention, unless they don’t actually want leftist outcomes, since most leftist outcomes don’t arise without it. Which left? The modern left in power in the US, as opposed to some idealized or historical or niche version

I reject any US-centric definition of “left”. Your left in power are pretty right-leaning by most of the world’s definition. Your left in media is extreme to the nth degree. So when I say left, I mean embracing new ideas (progressive not regressive) and personal freedoms over economic freedoms. Crypto falls between the two examples I stated. It is a new idea (so progressive) and enhances economic freedom (so right).

To reject US left is to reject the strongest left in the world which tells me again we are not talking about how the world actually operates, which is what I’m interested in in this conversation, not a historical or idealized or niche version. Although those versions are very interesting too in their own right, and I value personal freedoms and new ideas
