Open source code doesn't mean privacy preserving. Not specifically this, but just in general. Plenty of open source products that harvest user data.

Yeah, I figured. Just is something been on my mind recently after a convo with someone how an open source product leaked a ton of user data awhile ago. OSS isn't a silver bullet for privacy! It's only as robust as the values of the community that's holding it accountable!
