For my fund Scalar, 90% of our investors were really wonderful. However, 10% were deeply unkind during the bear market. We took capital from them because raising in 2017 for us was really challenging

If you have a choice, be really careful about vetting investors. Some only show their true colors in difficult times

What’s a good way to understand which investor is a good fit?

Specifically asking how they have handled bear markets or difficulties in the past and reference checks if possible on investors/funds they worked with during that time. I have more leverage now so would ask something like that now. Again, caveat is if you have the choice/leverage (we didn't back then)￼

An indicator that has worked really well for me is how the investor shows they value your time like reading the docs and preparing questions before hand, not being late to meetings, being engaged during the discussion
