traveling around japan i noticed that many shops have a cash-only policy for payments iโve been running these questions to them and the main reasons are 1) accounting complexity - they are not used to it 2) high fees

The amount of shops and restaurants accepting card payments has increasing considerably in the last 5-8 years though

We are a cash or check only businessโฆ We accept crypto yet havenโt posted it yet. ~3 percent in fees on transactions adds up considerably for marginal cost businesses.

even in berlin nearly 50% (my guess) of small shops and cafรฉs only accept cash due to high fees etc.

Same for Thailand from what I've experienced in the past 2 weeks. The only place I've been able to use my card is in 7 Elevens and slightly pricey restaurant / bars ๐ฅฒ

Here in beautiful Thailand...At ATMs the exchange rate is very good, but comes with a 5.5% mark-up fee to convert USD to Thai baht. ATMs are limited to 10,000 Bhat ~ $300 USD for $7 conversion fee. STEEP!
