This convo really does seem to be trending, but it drives me crazy. Why is the idea of a “dating market” just accepted as truth all of the sudden? Attraction is one of the least predictable aspects of human social behavior, and I see gross reduction like 10-point ranking adopted as if some immutable truth.

First of all, I think these theories have gained popularity due to Tinder, which in itself presents an extremely warped and simplified version of “dating,” one that could be considered like “shopping,” but it’s only applicable within these apps. The apps suck. You don’t have to use them.

Why even generalize, model and game out something that is both totally optional and sucks? I get infuriated that so many speak with such certitude about “dating” as a whole, when it’s one very weird, pretty psychopathic view of it based on apps that horribly simplify and warp a very complex and very subjective t

TLDR; if you think dating is a “market” and rank people like livestock, your baseline is giving psychopath vibes. “Why will nobody date me, an 8, something is wrong with women” reads to everyone else as “Why will nobody date me, a psychopath, I hate women for not liking psychopaths.”
