Gin gimlet, straight (its usually served straight but sometimes they put it on the rocks and that is no bueno).

Up. Not straight. Just means chilled, no ice. Think martini or manhattan.

Well isn't it technically 'straight up' since it's mixed? But saying 'straight up' makes you sound like a stoner so saying 'straight', even though it's technically incomplete, is cleaner 😅

Straight has a meaning in whiskey, but not in the way a drink is served. A lot of people say straight up when they mean “neat” too. That’s part of the issue with the phrase. Cold, no ice or room temp single spirit only. Don’t worry most bartenders can suss it out by context.
