This is a very impressive JD Vance speech at the a16z conference. Agree or not the vision of bringing manufacturing back to America will appeal to many people. No more fake jobs: https://x.com/aphysicist/status/1902002518869123314?s=46

I was deeply involved in the Made in USA movement starting around 2008, 7 years after China gained acceptance into the WTO. At that time, the influx of imported goods was devastating local manufacturing, but consumers were increasingly focused on paying less & less for consumer goods. Cheap labor only works because Walmart accustomed consumer to low prices. I completely understand the desire to revive American manufacturing, but the reality is that our society has become so far removed from producing certain CPGs that implementing this vision would be incredibly challenging. Achieving a meaningful impact would require significant hardship (price increase, for people on minimum wage). the majority of people paying for every day goods. The only viable way to bring back some manufacturing & remain competitive would be through robotics & automation. However, this approach would primarily benefit a small percentage of people rather than the broader population. My 2 cents What’s w fake job?
