Inspired by @matthewb - I’ll do a short thread on my current range toy/home defense pick - S&W M&P 2.0 carry comp (modern version of my setup) https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/performance-center-mp9-metal-carry-comp

I shoot the polymer version (old) with a red dot (Venom) and Faxon threaded barrel and compensator. https://faxonfirearms.com/faxon-match-series-barrel-for-m-p-full-size-gen-1-2-w-patented-flame-fluting-416-r-qpq-nitride-threaded/ https://faxonfirearms.com/faxon-exos-514-pistol-compensator-for-m-p/ On trigger, I switched to something lighter with a clean break. https://timneytriggers.com/alpha-competition-series-for-smith-wesson-m-p/

In terms of logic, I wanted something that shoots fast and flat. Compensators help keep muzzle flip down. Barrel simply for thread and aesthetics. Trigger helps with speed - I don’t compete but it’s fun to do drills on range. Can hit a Mozambique drill <2s which probably classifies me as an OK casual. I’m okay with iron sights but the red dot is pretty much a laser pointer up to 20ft.

Finally, this is a relative “entry level” gun bone stock. In terms of my next purchase, I’m eyeing the Stealth Arms Platypus. Waiting for Shot Show 2025 to pull the trigger.
