women/nb dominating the leaderboards on a weekly basis and not a single one chosen by the fc community for a lightning talk at farcon π₯² and yes there were plenty to choose from - 5/6 of my choices for talks were by women/nb folks

no offense but if they just pick an all male panel it just continues the cycle of misogyny and silencing women in the space

i'm not sure what the actual talks are going to be - these are just the community-voted lightning talks but i do 1000% agree we need more diversity of voices on crypto/tech panels in general and don't just slap a woman on there to fill out the diversity, put effort in to finding an expert in the field (i see this happen all too often)

yeah...the only thing that brings me comfort in this is looking back at the cycles of history large increases in social progress have always been preceded by intense periods of conservatism or backlashes: slavery > slavery abolished, Black power & civil rights during Reconstruction > white supremacy backlash & Jim Crow > Civil Right's Movement of 1960s (women's suffrage, Roe v Wade, birth control access, financial and workplace rights for minorities) > rise of the New Right, push towards traditional values, intense homophobia due to AIDs crisis of 80s > 3rd wave feminism & LGBTQ+ rights (gay marriage)

aww that gives me hope as someone whoβs dealt with insane islamophobia their whole life kids used to throw glass bottles at me and try to get me to kms bc I was muslim lol

fuck dude i'm sorry you've had to go through that ): i have hope that we'll only be in this specific hellhole for a few more years, these periods usually last a generation but have been accelerated due to the internet/social media this most recent wave of conservatism started around 2010, after the 2008 housing crisis and really gained traction in 2016. so we're right smack dab in the middle of it - keep your eyes out for the inflection point bc i think it'll come soon
