at the end of his /farcon-nyc talk @fredwilson.eth mentioned that USV and his partner Brad have been looking for 15+ years to invest in a company that builds a personal, self-sovereign data store — and I froze when I heard that because funny enough that’s the exact idea/area of interest that got me into crypto in high school decided to take a few minutes to talk about why this is so important to me, what I see the practical use case/problem to solve here is, and how I’m going to keep pushing these ideas forward

You mention "in one place", but I think this is where everyone is still physically skeuomorphic in their thinking. Your data won't be on your desktop or in the cloud. It will be location-less. Data needs to be capable of sitting anywhere and everywhere while still having control over it. To do this, you have to have distributed key management of the data (blockchain/cryptography) and distributed content-addressable data (ipfs). Combining these two things together, you can then have your data anywhere and everywhere while still maintaining control.
