I just had the realization that despite going for years - I sorta despise Jazz at LACMA. There seems to be two camps. The first group gets there early - competing over crammed, uncomfortable wooden chairs to hear jazz broadcast over speakers even though the performers are 10 feet away. The second is compromised of people and families who don’t care about the music showing up to drink wine on a Friday and loudly talk about their vacation plans for the Summer. Their conversations - while enthralling - drown out the music itself. Hence the speakers. Both groups seem to be happy so I don’t want to rag on their party, but if I want to hear some live jazz - indoors I will go.

there’s a third group where you stand in the area between the lights and stage. or wings to hear the speakers.
