I just had the realization that despite going for years - I sorta despise Jazz at LACMA. There seems to be two camps. The first group gets there early - competing over crammed, uncomfortable wooden chairs to hear jazz broadcast over speakers even though the performers are 10 feet away. The second is compromised of people and families who donā€™t care about the music showing up to drink wine on a Friday and loudly talk about their vacation plans for the Summer. Their conversations - while enthralling - drown out the music itself. Hence the speakers. Both groups seem to be happy so I donā€™t want to rag on their party, but if I want to hear some live jazz - indoors I will go.

thereā€™s a third group where you stand in the area between the lights and stage. or wings to hear the speakers.
