Sitting here at my desk and I saw a work crew pull up to my yard. Went out to find out was going on. Apparently, I got a "long grass" ticket in May - when I was in the hospital with a broken leg - and because I didn't contest it, they're tearing my yard out. Flowers that were planted decades before I moved here. Raspberry bushes. Herbs and perennial edibles. All destroyed. I'm not having a good day, y'all. At all.

OMG, that's insane! They ripped out everything in your yard? There's a "long grass ticket?" Didn't know that even existed. So neighbors complain that you didn't keep your yard under control? Why wouldn't they just mow the lawn then. geez.

Nope, not neighbors complaining. The city systematically goes through poor neighborhoods looking for reasons to ticket people and add on fines and fees. My house was cheap, but that comes with pitfalls.
