i enjoy the community here (as i do the niche subreddit world) but i much prefer the reddit response/vote format vs the twitter reply/like format, but i realize i am in the minority here.

Me too, but downvotes are misused on Reddit. 

Maybe we could do away with down votes and go full crypto native with quadratic up votes.

Biggest gripe with the downvotes is their relationship with the “Hot” algo and the recency weighting. You can spend an hour crafting a detailed post, only to have it downvoted immediately by 1 person who didn’t like the title. 

Just like that it never makes it into “Hot” and never gets seen again.

i think just having upvotes (or even using the likes) to surface content could work. i agree that downvotes are sometimes (maybe even often) misused, but do find them to generally add value, especially in the more community focused subs (not the front page stuff)
